The CIPA / EnergyNet Alliance

EnergyNet's alliance with the California Independent Petroleum Association creates value for both CIPA's members and the Association.

EnergyNet wants to give back to the organization which serves California producers. Through a special arrangement between EnergyNet and CIPA, EnergyNet has agreed to donate a percentage of each commission it receives from a CIPA seller back to the organization.

What is CIPA?

The California Independent Petroleum Association (CIPA) is a non-profit, non-partisan trade association representing over 400 independent crude oil and natural gas producers, royalty owners, and service and supply companies operating in California.
Since 1976, when the Independent Oil & Gas Producers' Association merged with the California Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association to form CIPA, the association has kept the political, regulatory and public policy interests of independent oil and gas producers at the forefront of its agenda.
CIPA represents the diverse interests of its membership before the California State Legislature, the United States Congress and numerous federal, state and local regulatory agencies. The Association is an advocate of free market principles, eliminating duplicative regulation, stimulating recovery of domestic resources and improving the industry's public image.

What is an Independent Producer?

An independent producer is a non-integrated company, which receives most of its revenue from crude oil or natural gas production at the wellhead. Independents are exclusively in the exploration and production segment of the industry with no retail outlets, marketing or refining operations. Independents are price takers -- they have little control over the price they receive for their product and cannot pass through to consumers the costs incurred in producing it.

Leadership

CIPA is governed by a 48-member Board of Directors and a 14-member Executive Committee which sets the agenda and direction of the Association. The Chief Executive Officer is hired and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. He or she is responsible for the hiring and direction of the association's staff.

Membership

There are several types of membership in CIPA: Producers, Royalty Owners, and Associates (service & supply companies). Dues are based on production for producer members; the number of employees for associate members; and a flat rate for royalty owners.

Legislative Monitoring & Advocacy

The Association acts as a clearinghouse of information and a source of assistance to its members by keeping them abreast of oil and gas legislation, regulations and environmental affairs. Professional lobbying firms in Sacramento and Washington D.C. work with CIPA staff to advocate the Association's position on specific issues on both the state and federal level.

Networking & Events

CIPA hosts a wide variety of events each year. All CIPA members are invited to attend the Association's four quarterly board meetings. In addition, CIPA hosts legislative days at both the state and federal levels, informational seminars, golf tournaments and an annual meeting with speakers, golf tournament, family events and networking receptions.

Publications

The Association publishes a weekly newsletter and an annual membership directory and buyer's guide. The directory lists all CIPA members in addition to serving as a buyers guide for service and supply company members. CIPA's website offers up-to-date information on legislative activities, meetings, and industry links.

Committees

Committees are the backbone of CIPA's success. Participation as a member of one of the many committees within CIPA benefits both the industry and the individual. CIPA Committees include: Associate Member; E-commerce and Technology; Economic Policy & Taxation; Environmental Affairs; Insurance; Membership; Offshore, COPS; Property Tax; and Public Awareness.

Sponsorships & Advertising

CIPA offers several outstanding sponsorship opportunities throughout the year. The annual meeting, golf tournament, seminars, and brown bag lunches are just a few of the many ways to reach CIPA membership through sponsorships. Advertising is also available to CIPA membership in both the weekly newsletter and on the website.

I wanted to tell you how much the "Properties Sold" category is such an invaluable tool to go back and see data and bid histories for properties we have sold. We've had to refer to it several times over the last two years.
